Confused..some use to wash cars? I'm looking for a good sponge for my shower. What gives with this item?

If you are looking for a firm, rough sponge, then this will do. Not really good for your body unless you like to exfoliate a lot. This may do for your car. Get a softer sponge for your body.

Is it possible to thread a cord through it to hang up?

You probably can, however you run the risk of breaking apart the sponge so it falls apart quicker. It is already hit and miss with these being in a solid piece to begin with. Perhaps a thread would work. I use a metal clothes hanger clip to hang it from the shower rod.

How do you clean it and how long does it last?

I use my sea sponge for painting and it is lasting really well. They are easy to clean, just wash it really well in warm water and a mild soap (I use hand soap) and let it air dry. If you use it for painting you have to keep it damp or the paint will dry in the sponge and not come out.

Why don’t the natural sponges have a rope to hang them with?

I would assume it is because it would compromise the structure of the sponge and make it susceptible to tearing apart with continued use. I keep my sponge in a breathable container or in netting that has a rope to hang it with.
