Supplements, Valerian Root (Valeriana officinalis) 500 mg, Herbal Supplement, 250 Veg Capsules

I have always used melatonin when I needed extra help falling or staying asleep (which is often), but it didn’t always work as well as I hoped and it made me feel less than 100% the next day. Someone recommended I try valerian root so here I am. I have taken this every night for about two weeks now, and not only do I not have trouble falling asleep (I feel like a kid fighting their eyelids), but I also sleep through the ENTIRE night which is a giant win for me. Even with melatonin, I would wake up multiple times each night. Needless to say I have put my melatonin away now that I have found this. *The only downside is that the smell is super strong, like a strong, aged Parmesan cheese. Just holding the capsules for half a second before taking them leaves a little of the scent behind and they have a slight taste but it is manageable and well worth it to sleep well!*

I give it 5 stars for results. Definitely helps me relax and sleep. But boy does it stink, I have to wash my hands after I pop 2 pills. Its like your finger poked through the toilet paper stinky, no joke. But if you can get by that like I can, it works. Worth a try.

I’ve been taking valerian root for a long time and feel that it really does help me relax and unwind when I need to … and this particular brand is very effective, easy to swallow, and reasonably priced. However, I know it doesn’t smell very nice and people seem to complain about THAT more than about its effectiveness …. and because they don’t like the smell they won’t even try it. There are definitely advantages to trying it for yourself so here is what I do to fix the “smell problem”. I put a few days worth of the capsules in a little dish and leave it on the vanity in my bedroom out in the open … and when I’m ready to take some they have ”aired out” and have no smell whatsoever. Absolutely none. So if you think you could benefit from taking valerian root, try my trick and air some out, just a few at a time … and stash the bottle out of sight and no one will even notice them. Problem solved.

I am very happy with this product! I will say right up front, this smells bad. I take these quicky with at least 8oz of water and immediately wash my hands. While the smell is bad, there is no taste. The four stars is due to the smell, which may not be able to be avoided. This supplement works though. I purchased it to help me sleep and it is very effective. Within 20 to 30 minutes, it calms me and I drift into a peaceful sleep. As an added benefit, it has helped me with night hot flashes due to menopause! I do not suffer any adverse effects. Like any supplement, individual results may vary. Do not take this is you are pregnant or nursing. Check with your healthcare provider to make sure it will not interact with any of your medications.

The supplement for me works great been sleeping better does have an odor to it but what can you do if the root smells it smells.

Valerian root took my sleep onset time from 1 to 2 hours down to about 20 to 45 minutes. I’m still working on improving it more, but this has been by far the biggest improvement from any supplement I’ve tried for falling asleep. This company makes a solid product and the dosage feels effective. Only downside is the smell, it’s pretty strong, but that’s just how valerian root naturally smells.

They really do help me sleep. I have a hard time getting sleepy if I don't take them. I do have to take them with 10 mg. of melatonin. I just wish the capsules were smaller. They sometimes feel like they're stuck in my throat. I wish I could find capsules half the strength and I'd take 4, if they were smaller, but I don't see a lower dosage.

A valerian root supplement from a very reputable brand. Seems to contain exactly what it says it does. Valerian has a very distinct smell that cannot be avoided. Valerian root has a mild benzodiazepine-like relaxing and anxiolytic effect. It can also help with sleep.

When taking the recommended max dose of 2 pills it does seem to produce a slight calming effect. Overall achieves the desired effect before bed time. I use a tissue when handling these pills or the foul smell sticks to the fingers and hard to wash off.
