Monolith Over Ear Planar Magnetic Headphones - With 106mm Driver, 50 Ohm, 10 Watt Maximum Power Handling, Open Back Design, Comfort Ear Pads For Studio/Professional, Black/Wood

I bought these at the end of January 2018 and they are the revised version with the 2.5mm connectors instead of the MMCX. I've tried a number of planar headphones, Audeze LCD3, Opportunity PM-3, AudioQuest Nighthawk, HifiMan HE560 and never kept any of them. I think that I have never found a set that had the sound I liked at a price commensurate to their quality and which I would want to spend time with rather than with my Sennheiser HD800S headphones. When I came across the 1060s at under $300 I couldn't pass up the chance to try them out. For the money, they are beautifully made and presented. Out of the box they didn't sound bad, but have certainly benefited from a 60 hour burn in. Now I have to say that they are just a very musical set of phones, warm and easy to listen to. I have compared them to the HD800S running from a Schiit Jotununheim and not surprisingly they don't compare in soundstage, clarity, high end accuracy, but at the price that isn't what I am looking for. The real use for me is as a set of phones to casually listen to music from my Fiio X7 Mkii, and for this they are great. They are comfortable, a bit on the heavy side, but not to the point where I noticed it. The pads creaked a bit when first used, but have settled down and are plush and provide a good comfortable seal. I have no complaints about the cabling which is really thin, but seems solid enough and not microphonic. With the new 2.5mm at the headphone end and 3.5mm for the player connection, this is an easy cable to replace if you do have any problems. As far as the sound quality goes, they have a reasonably wide sound stage, but with not much front to back depth. Bass is slightly accentuated and top end rolls off a bit. I've seen reviews complaining about a peak at 5KHz and other problems, but I don't notice it, and for me these are NOT a pair of reference headphones, they are something to listen to music with and for me they have a pleasing musical sound, not harsh, not super sharp, but not too muddy either. A sound you can just sit back and enjoy, maybe not with a "wow" but with a long term smile. (Amazingly some people who don't notice the 5KHz problem have been asking for advice as to how to search for it so that they can be disturbed by it, weird!). They are pretty easy to drive, certainly from the X7 AM3 stock amp module. I did buy a balanced cable on Amazon and tried that output on the X7 to the M1060s. Impossible to do an A/B comparison but my impression was that the balanced gave slightly more open highs, but slightly detracted from the bass and didn't help the warmth so have sent that cable back and happily gone back to the supplied SE cable. In conclusion I am keeping the M1060s for relaxed listening. When I want to listen more seriously I'll still use my HD800Ss or my Shure SE846s for the Fiio X7 Mkii. The fact the I can listen happily to the M1060s when I am used to the sound from TOTL headphones and IEMs, speaks volumes to the quality of the M1060s and for the price a total bargain.

I love these headphones. they are the most comfortable headphones that i have ever used. I got these as an entry into the high end audio market and they are worth every bit of the price tag and could probably cost quite a bit more and still be worth it. these headphones are so easy to drive with and impedance of 50 ohms so you don't even really need a dac and amp but i do recommend using at least a cheaper one like the Schiit audio Fulla or if you don't mind a little more cash the Magni Modi stack. these are great headphones for the money if you are looking for p[professional grade audio for a consumer grade price. the only gripe i have with them is the build quality is a little lack luster but not at all a deal killer. i also would recommend getting a new cord for them because i had a problem with the sawdering of the one that i got but your mileage may very. these are extremely well balanced and if you would like a little more eq you can find good software for it like boom 3D to tailor them to your tastes. in short these are GREAT and i cannot recommend them enough to people looking to get into high end audio or if you are just looking for a better media consumption headphones. on another note they are great for gaming as long as you are in a closed environment you can hear directional footsteps and sounds really well thanks to the massive sound stage. you will not find a better pair of high-end headphones in the same price point and not really until you get up into the 5-600 dollar and higher range. i truly recommend these headphones. (Update). i am 2 years of use of the headphones and am still very much happy with the quality of the product. The only issue is that i have had the headband break, where the band meets the actual cans with a little plastic piece connecting them. This is fine by normal standards and i don't mind forming a complaint normally but the support for the monolith warranty service is godawful. i have been through now 4 different RMA processes, one of which the service rep never even contacted me and closed the case and 2 getting my information and never contacting me again. the final one i never even got a response at all. i have finally called and gotten in touch with the customer support via a phone call. I did launch the rma near Christmas time and i am aware that this is a busy time but it is unacceptable for it to be going on this long. i will either change this if i am able to get some kind of replacement or fix to the product. depending on the fix i am provided i will be changing the star rating accordingly.

Mi reseña será extensa, si gustas acompañarme mil gracias!! 😊🎼🎧 Si aquí sigues adelante, de inicio me gustaría compartir mis experiencias 🎧🎧🎧esperando poner mi grano de arena, resulta que inicie en esto de los audífonos a mediados del 2021 y en esta travesía eh adquirido más 15 pares diferentes entre in ear y over ear tanto BT y cableados de diferentes marcas, y siempre buscaba mejor calidad de audio, te menciono esto no como presunción, sino como referencia, mis primeros audífonos fueron unos Sennheiser HD 350 BT y de ahí en pasado por marcas comerciales (JABRA elite 75T tuve mala suerte con estos, el auricular derecho dejó de funcionar, se mando garantía, misma que solo aplica 1 sola vez, me mandaron los ACTIVE 7 y pasó lo mismo, no los recomiendo) SONY XM4, XM3, IN EAR WF 1000XM4, BOSE EARBUDS QUIETCONFORT, BOSE NC 700, SOUND LINK 2 SENNHEISER PXC 550 y algunos más, pensaba que al tener el mejor codec de audio (aptx, LDAC) según mis investigaciones solucionaban mi sed de calidad, en su momento así fue para mí en ese entonces, pero me doy cuenta hoy día que desde ahí mi búsqueda estuvo mal enfocada, ya que después de mis XM4 y BOSE NC 700, tuve que a ver dando el brinco al HI FI, ya que lo que buscaba era mayor fidelidad, sin en cambio seguí comprando 🎧 algunos más bluetooth, y es ahí es donde hoy me doy cuenta que gasté de más !!! Ni modo me emocioné demasiado en esos tiempos ! !!! Continúe con mis investigaciones y veía y leía reseñas que hablaban de Dacs, amplificadores, audífonos cableados, etc etc y con algo de temor inicio mi primera compra por internet, empezando por un DAC/AMP FIIO BTR5 2021 para usarlo con mis audífonos adquiridos hasta el momento, pero para sorpresa mía, no sirvió de mucho ya que los audífonos comerciales no escalan casi nada con un DAC/AMP, proseguí con mi búsqueda e investigaciones y fueron llegando poco a poco (principio del 2023 a lo que va de este 2024) OTROS DAC/AMP FIIO K7, FIIO K5, IFI BLUE V2 (al ser bluetooht, lo ocupó con ambos FIIO por óptica / coaxial con un rendimiento asombroso) y amplificadores XDUOO M-602 DE VALVULAS y MONOLIT LIQUID SPARK también los siguientes; AUDIS FIIO FD5, FH7, HIFIMAN 400SE, Y SUNDARA CB, SENNHEISER HD600, y estos extraordinarios MONOLITE M1060, y todas mis compras buscaba siempre lo mismo, mejorar mi experiencia sonora, no se si me volví muy exigente o muy tonto, pero no me arrepiento de nada, todos y cada unos de ellos los disfrute al máximo en su momento, recuerdo que con mis XM4 me desvele toda la noche y en algunos momentos casi lloro de la emoción, hoy día me siguen gustando pero no de la misma manera que al inicio, y me refiero específicamente al sonido, en la medida que vas escuchando otras maneras el audio, todo se vuelve diferente en mis gustos y perspectivas, creo que es partes del crecimiento por así decirlo en este camino de los 🎧 Hoy día los valoro mucho y son parte de mi colección y todos me gustan, no voy a caer en decir cuál es mejor ya que se me hace injusto compararlos, todos mis 🎧 tienen sus pros y contras, sus cualidades y tecnologías, (los bt con su cancelación de ruido y diversas funciones y los cableados con una función particular) aunado a que esto del audio es subjetivo, más bien te puedo decir cuáles me gustan más y de lo que tengo en bluetooth mis XM4 con el códex LDAC y todos los BOSE y en estos me doy cuenta que a pesar solo usan el códec AAC su sonido es deliciosamente cálido ! De cableados me agradan más, los FH7, HD 600 Y ESTOS M1060 todos tienes sus propias cualidades y rendimientos, de excelente calidad, juntos han llenado mis gustos y preferencias, y al momento eh encontrado el sonido perfecto para mí, estos M1060 Y MIS HD 600 pero también eh llegado a una conclusión !!! Que todos suenan genial pero hasta cierto punto parecido tal vez halla alguien que no esté de acuerdo conmigo, pero para mí es así, y me explico, en la primera escucha las diferencias son poco notorias, pero cuando los escuchas a detallé la cosa cambia, eh realizado varias combinaciones con mis DAC/AMP y como ejemplo te pongo los 3 audífonos de mi título en verdad suenan parecido sin ser exigente, las diferencias son notorias entre un 10% y máximo el 20% pero justo este porcentaje marca la diferencia, claro todo esto en sus diferentes rangos de frecuencia, en algunos casos, más graves, medios o agudos y en su propia gama y ecualización de fábrica (por cierto no me gusta ecualizar) NO ME MAL ENTIENDAS si hay diferencias sonoras pero NO son abismales, quiero que sepas que en todo este camino me eh comido infinidad de tutoriales y reseñas, en su momento me han servido, pero también me han confundido y con cierto riesgo fui comprando a lo que le llamo MIS JUGUETES!!! de echó, me quedo con ganas de varios audífonos (sigva 023, fidelio X2, AKG 701, Ananda, Neumann NDH20, 660 S2 ….) y uno que otro DAC/AMP (IFI NEO, HIFIMAN EF 400, XDUOO XA 10…) seguramente deben ser superiores en rendimiento ( o más bien diferentes y en la variedad está el gusto, eh comprobado que un equipo mas caro no es necesariamente mejor) Para mi con lo que tengo hoy día es más que suficiente, y según mis ánimos del momento uso uno u otro Lo que sí dudo mucho es si algún día conoceré equipos que valen una barbaridad $$$ (HD 800, Arya, Bayerdinamic T1 etc etc o esos dac/amp como el IFI NEO 2, o SERENADE HIFIMAN entre varios más que ruedan es este mundo de la audiofilia!!! Con esto te comparto que soy un fan de la gama media y media alta y me doy cuenta de lo siguiente; Los HD 600 o M1060 valen 4 veces más que los 400 SE de HIFIMAN, perooooo el sonido no es 4 veces mejor, solo en un 20% máximo, y me imagino que así debe ser en esos equipos carísimos, creo que no valdría la pena el costo respecto a la diferencia sonora. Y por otro lado y de lo que sí tengo, debo reconocer que el timbre y naturalidad de los HD 600 o la Holografía y los bajos de los M1060 valen mucho la pena, no sé si la diferencia de precio está justificada, respecto al sonido, pero si en la construcción, acá cada quien es responsable de hasta donde quiera llegar, y por lo que veo así es este rollo de los audífonos, muchas veces se paga cierta suma de más, por tener un rendimiento diferente (no necesariamente mejor) y soy yo el único responsable de mis adquisiciones, y en todos los casos eh estado consiente de mis compras y no es justificación pero es mi hobby favorito, me apasionan los audífonos y cada que eh podido hago más amplia mi colección 🎧🎧🎧 Siempre me ha gustado la música, aún conservo muchos acetatos, cassettes, CD y también mi hermoso Ipod de 60gb y con el trajín de la vida me olvidé cierto tiempo de este hobby, pero ahora estoy vuelta en el, conociendo y aprendiendo y me doy cuenta que en estos tiempos donde todo es de excelente calidad ! Los bluetooth son muy versátiles, cómodos y fácil de usar con todas sus prestaciones, funciones y tecnologías, SONY Y BOSE cuentan con aplicaciones gratuitas de gran calidad, el sonido es cálido en todos pero muy bueno y satisfactorio, excelentes para el deporte, transporte, trabajo y oficina. Pero si se trata de degustar la música no hay más, los cableados conectados a un DAC/AMP son la gloria !!! Una vez que pruebas esta manera de escuchar la música no hay marcha atrás !!! Si continuaste hasta aquí te lo agradezco, y si me lo permites te daría un consejo, antes de comprar lo que mejor consideres, lo primero que tienes que tener en cuenta es que tipo de sonido te agrada más, más bajos, medios o agudos y aquí entra a lo que les llama firmas de audio, plana, cálida, equilibrada, fría, etc etc y de ahí donde y como vas a escuchar tu música, en tu celular, computadora, en tu biblioteca musical (MP3, Flac, MQA etc) o en streaming (por cierto entre TIDAL Y SPOTIFY la diferencia es notoria solo con el equipo adecuado) dicho esto no te rompas la cabeza, la música se escucha más que bien en todo lo comentado, algunas cosas mejor que otras lo acepto pero hasta ahí, debo reconocer que por cable es mayor fidelidad y realismo, así que disfruta lo que tienes sea lo que sea debe ser genial, que no te pase lo que a mí qué en mi búsqueda mal ejecutada gaste de más, (sobre todo al principio en mis adquisiciones bluetooth) hoy día tengo un mayor conocimiento y menor temor de comprar en línea, ya que lamentablemente no hay tiendas especializadas en mi ciudad y de haber sabido algo más al respecto mi camino hubiera sido más corto $$$ y beneficioso! Considero que todas mis compras HI FI fueron acertadas, y en todos los casos me volví un experto caza ofertas logrando obtener buenos precios en su momento, así que te recomiendo muchas paciencia y esperes buenos precios seguido salen buenas promociones acá en Amazon y justo mis Monolite M1060 los logré comprar en 5 k y según reseñas que eh visto los comparan con los Audize LC2, no se si esto sea verdad, pero tal vez !! Pero bueno lo veo en perspectiva es algo como una escuela de audio donde aprendes, muchas cosas sobre la marcha como los diferentes codecs, dacs, amplificadores, formatos, (MP3, FLAC, MQA) marcas, modelos, prestaciones, cables balanceados (que por cierto déjame decirte que solo ayudan en la cantidad de volumen más no en la resolución) en fin muchas cosas que resultan apasionantes pero hasta cierto punto caras en su conjunto, en su momento eh vendido algunos de mis audífonos bluetooth y con lo mismo eh realizado nuevas adquisiciones, para aminorar lo gastado hasta el momento! Me a funcionado ! Hoy día lo mío es escuchar mi música principalmente en casa y por cable con toda la cadena de audio que tengo a mi alcance, cosa que hago y disfruto todos los días ! Respecto a mi título te comparto mis muy particulares, subjetivos y respetuosos comentarios y lejos de una comparativa, es una descripción en base a mi propia experiencia y punto de vista, (por cierto no me gusta comparar, sino describir mis percepciones y preferencias, ya que lo puede ser excelente para mí, para ti puede ser todo lo contrario y viceversa, más bien considero que detrás de cada AUDÍFONO en especial de marcas dedicadas, hay un grupo de ingenieros realizando lo mejor para nosotros y acá uno decide que comprar según en cada caso y preferencia particular!!! 400 SE EQUILIBRADO (son una mezcla de cálidos y analíticos) MUSICA RECOMENDADA, ELECTRONICA, AUCUSTICA, POP, BANDAS SONORAS CONSTRUCCIÓN 7/10 COMODIDAD 8/10 RELACIÓN CALIDAD/PRECIO 10/10 SONIDO MUY BUENO 9/10 GRAVES CANTIDAD 9, CALIDAD 9 MEDIOS CANTIDAD 9, CALIDAD 9 AGUDOS CANTIDAD 10, CALIDAD 9 (Nota: estos son los más demandantes de energía al ser planar magnetic de baja impedancia 18 y bajo en decibeles 92, pero según mis experiencias los eh logrado mover al 💯 con los amplificadores de bulbos y el liquid spark de 1.3 w y por si te interesa son los más responsivos para ecualizar lo hacen de 10 !!! CONSTRUCCIÓN 9/10 COMODIDAD 8/10 RELACIÓN CALIDAD/PRECIO 9/10 SONIDO EXCELENTE 9.5/10 GRAVES CANTIDAD 10, CALIDAD 10 MEDIOS CANTIDAD 9, CALIDAD 9 AGUDOS CANTIDAD 8.5, CALIDAD 9 Con el tiempo llegue a una conclusión propia, que me agrada explorar diferentes maneras de escuchar la música, que si bien la música es mi hobby favorito, admito que gusto un poco mas de cómo se escucha, razón por la cual eh preferido adquirir diversos equipos y jugar con ellos, haciendo varias interconexiones (cadenas de audio) y en todos los casos los resultados son excelentes, eh incorporando a mi cadena un DDC DOUK U2 PRO y mejora el sonido a razón entre un 5 a 10% también agregue un control de tonos FOSI Q4 ( que aunque no me gusta ecualizar por duda lo adquirí para quitarme la espina y te debo decir que hace un trabajo muy decente, a veces gusto de ponerle sal y pimienta a mi audio, insisto los HIFIMAN son los más responsivos para ecualizar lo hacen de 10, te comparto 2 de mis cadenas favoritas Teléfono IOS CON TIDAL PLUS o PC biblioteca musical + DDC DOUK + FIIO K7 o K5 + AMPLICADOR MONOLIT LS + HD 600 o MONOLIT M 1060 = SUBLIME (logrando un sonido resolutivo y encantador) Teléfono Android con LDAC y/o PC + TIDAL y/o biblioteca musical + IFI BLUE V2 conectado a cualquier FIIO K5 o K7 por óptica o coaxial + AMPLIFICADOR DE BULBOS MT 602 + HD 600 o 400SE o SUNDARA CB = EXTRAORDINARIO (logrando un sonido cálido hermoso) Puedes hacer más cadenas de audio con estos juguetes y en todos los casos los resultados son asombrosos Pero con las 2 cadenas que te comparto todo se vuelve adictivo para mí !!! Finalmente me despido no sin antes agradecer tu tiempo de verdad y decirte que todo lo escrito es mi muy particular punto de vista, ojalá te sirvan mis líneas y tomes las mejores decisiones sin gastar de más, (no temas hacer compras acá en Amazon son unos profesionales y mis compras todas han sido un éxito y además cuentan con un excelente soporte al cliente de 10) No me considero para nada un audifilo, más bien un gran entusiasta del los audífonos, me apasionan (Tal vez mi próxima parada será el DAC/AMP HIFIMAN EF 400 o EF 600 y los SIVGA 023 que según cuentan se parecen mucho a los ARIA DE HIFIMAN) Hoy día con toda la información y equipos obtenidos me doy cuenta que las diferencias no son tan grandes, pero todo indica que así esto de la audiofilia !!! Excellent sound marred by poor noisy connections on the cans which sometimes just fall out. Prolly should have sent them back. Meh.

Received my Revision 2 M1060's in perfect condition. Shipped very fast direct from Monoprice US to Canada. My copy was perfect and had none of the problems I've read about with the first edition. First on my setup. I am playing FLAC files with Media Monkey, ripped directly from CD's. My DAC/Headphone amp is the Emotiva Stealth DC-1. I listen to a variety of music but favor Rock, Classic Rock and Metal (Goth, Symphonic, etc.). I burned in the headphone for 10 hours or so before serious listening. The headphones are big and heavy but it was fairly comfortable with the big ear pads and the little cushions on the headband. These are very efficient and easy to drive, which I understand is a bit unusual for Planer Magnetics. Certainly more efficient than my Beyerdynamic T90's, or Hifiman HE-560's (Also a planer magnetic and least efficient of all my cans). I would describe the M1060's sound as rich, luxurious and full; however, the treble is a bit recessed, so it doesn't have as much air and treble extension and resolution as my T90's or HE-560. This is true even after I've EQ'ed the M1060's to boost the base and treble a bit. As far as soundstage goes, the M1060's is wide but depth is fairly shallow. Again my T90's and HE-560's have greater depth giving a 3D effect on certain recordings. Where the M1060's really shine are on poorly recorded CD's. I never bothered listening to some of my music because it was simply unlistenable with the T90's, just too strident but sounded great with the M1060's. The Cult - Love CD is one such example and I listened to it for the first time in a long time and just got lost listening to the music... The strength of these cans are great bass and clear mid's. It has enough resolution to pick out individual voices in multi-part harmonies which on lesser headphones tend to bleed together as a single voice. These are definitely keepers that will complement my other headphones. Bottom line. If you are looking for a non-fatiguing, smooth, rich sound, the M1060's are highly recommended. If you are looking for a deeper soundstage or something with more treble extension/resolution, you will have to look elsewhere and be prepared to spend a bit more to get it. Update October 27, 2017: My right ear piece lost 90% of the sound about 5 weeks ago. I hadn't been using the headphones for a while and was surprised to hear that problem when I tried them again. I contacted Monoprice via e-mail and they game me an RMA with shipping labels (I didn't have to pay shipping). The total process took about 5 weeks and I just received a brand new replacement headset. I give kudos to Monoprice for standing behind their product and making the return process less onerous and costly. Especially for us Canadians. I listened to the new headphone last night and they sounded great! Update March 27, 2018: These sound even better now with my new EQ settings and thought I would share them with you. More detail and texture especially in the vocals and treble. They don't sound dark with these settings! I looked at the M1060 frequency response chart from InnerFidelity and came up with the following EQ: 31 +2, 62 +1, 125 0, 250 0, 500 0, 1k 0, 2k 0, 4k +1, 8k +2, 16k +3. Give it a try and adjust to your own taste.
