Do they need to be washed before first use? If so what's the best way to wash them?

I did not wash them per say. I did do a little rinse.

Hi, You need to tighten the lip for this fake blood Halloween party props that the gas would not come out.

Are the lids reusable?

You can reuse the tops but they are no longer spill proof. The first ‘unscrew’ breaks the seal. So even if you screw it on and decide you want to change what’s in it, you have to break the seal to reopen. NEVER seals again but will close. Like the plastic seal on a soda bottle. Love these!
